Her advocacy work involves raising awareness with scientific evidence on how weight stigma and the pathologization of bodies causes systemic discrimination and oppression.
Vice President
Membership Engagement Co-Chair
Katarina Wind, MD, CCFP (she/her)
Dr. Katarina Wind started learning about weight inclusive care as she was recovering from her own eating disorder. This was the first time she saw care that emphasized adequate nourishment of all body sizes. As logical as this seems, current medical models encourage the very same calorie deficits, and behaviours, for larger patients that would be diagnosed as eating disordered in smaller patients.
In her practice as a family physician and hospitalist, she emphasizes care that doesn’t assume patients’ behaviours or health status from their body size, and focuses on treatments that do not require disordered eating behaviours. She also has created and teaches a workshop series for medical students in weight inclusive care, now in its third year.
