AWSIM operates on a calendar-year membership model, meaning memberships run from January 1 through December 31. This structure allows us to align our educational programming, governance, budgeting, and member benefits across the organization.

That depends on when you join.

  • If you join between January 1 and October 31:
Your membership is valid through December 31 of that same year, and you will need to renew to continue into the next year.
  • If you join on or after November 1:
    Your membership includes:
    • The remaining months of the current year (November–December), and the entire following calendar year
    • You do not need to renew in January.

Because AWSIM is a calendar-year organization, renewal notices are sent broadly at the start of the year for administrative simplicity.

If you joined on or after November 1, your membership is already active for the full upcoming year, and no action is needed. If you’re unsure, we’re always happy to confirm your status.

No. AWSIM memberships are annual and not prorated by month. Membership dues support year-round programming, infrastructure, and community-building.

In limited circumstances (such as system errors or first-year timing confusion), AWSIM may offer discretionary credits or adjustments, but these are reviewed individually and are not automatic or precedent-setting.

AWSIM offers multiple membership tiers based on professional role and training status, including:

  • Physician memberships (MD/DO),
  • Associate memberships (e.g., NP, PA, ND),
  • Affiliate memberships (licensed allied health professionals, researchers, administrators, and policy makers),
  • Fellow / resident membership
  • Student memberships.

Each tier has different benefits and governance rights. If you’re unsure which tier fits best, contact us and we’re happy to help.

No. Benefits vary by membership tier.

Some benefits—such as physician-oriented CME credits and voting rights at the Annual General Meeting (AGM)—are limited to specific membership categories. All members, however, are welcome to engage in AWSIM’s educational offerings, committees, and community spaces as outlined in their tier.

AWSIM offers reduced dues for members practicing in countries with lower rates of compensation, guided by international conventions. These rates are listed in our current membership dues schedule.

AWSIM offers scholarships and discounted memberships to support access and equity.

Scholarships:

  • Follow the same calendar-year structure as all memberships,
  • Apply to a specific membership tier,
  • Do not change tier-based benefits or governance rights.

When a scholarship is awarded, AWSIM communicates the coverage period and any renewal expectations clearly.

Yes. AWSIM values interdisciplinary collaboration. Members across tiers are encouraged to participate in committees, working groups, and ad-hoc projects, subject to organizational needs and governance policies.

Voting rights and eligibility to serve on the Board are limited to specific membership categories, as defined in AWSIM’s governance documents and membership benefits schedule.

Please reach out. AWSIM is committed to clear, respectful communication and will work with you to clarify your membership status, renewal timing, or benefits.

Please note: AWSIM memberships run on a calendar-year basis (January–December).

  • If you join between January 1 and October 31, your membership is valid through December 31 of the current year.
  • If you join on or after November 1, your membership includes November–December plus the full following calendar year, and you will not need to renew in January.

Membership tiers determine eligibility for certain benefits, including CME credits and governance rights.
If you’re unsure which tier applies to you or have questions before joining, we’re happy to help.
